MY SPECIALTIES
The Only Way Out, Is Through
Mental Health and Well-being
The human experience is filled with joy and with challenges. Sometimes these challenges exceed our own capacity to understand and cope effectively. A trained, experienced and licensed psychologist or mental health therapist can assist and provide interventions, strategies and resources to add perspective and enhance well-being; so as to live life more optimally.
I am passionate about helping individuals, couples and families to recognize and embrace their capacity to understand and to change their life experience.

Anxiety
Some people who are stressed may show relatively mild outward signs of anxiety, such as fidgeting, biting their fingernails, tapping their feet, etc. In other people, chronic activation of stress hormones can contribute to severe feelings of anxiety (e.g., racing heartbeat, nausea, sweaty palms, etc.), feelings of helplessness and a sense of impending doom. Thought patterns that lead to stress can also leave people vulnerable to intense anxiety feelings. Supportive and cognitive therapies can help. You are not alone.

Depression
It is normal to experience a range of moods, both high and low, in everyday life. While some "down in the dumps" feelings are a part of life, sometimes, people fall into depressing feelings that persist and start interfering with their ability to complete daily activities, hold a job, and enjoy successful interpersonal relationships. The term Major Depression is used to describe such periods of extended, unremitting and profound depression. Symptoms of Major Depression may include: sleep problems; fatigue; appetite changes; feelings of worthlessness, self-hate, and guilt; an inability to concentrate or make decisions; agitation, restlessness, and irritability; withdrawal from typical pleasurable activities; and feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.
Reaching out and talking to a therapist is the first step in getting help in understanding and coping with depression.

Chronic Medical Illness
Because of their effects on the immune system, stress hormones impact the development and severity of many different diseases and bodily systems. In some instances, stress causes existing conditions to worsen. In other cases, stress seems to be a major factor creating vulnerability to developing new conditions in the first place.
Stress induced illness or a chronic medical condition such as heart disease, kidney disease or renal failure, diabetes or cancer, add stressful levels of uncertainty about life and about the future. Discussing these concerns in a compassionate and therapeutic environment can help.
